By kinesiotherapy we mean a path that uses various methods to improve the health status and functional recovery of the patient.

We often speak only of recovery, but in reality kinesiotherapy aims to improve joint movement, strength, muscle mass and mobility.

How it works?

Therefore, a personalized program is elaborated which foresees the union of different components: various massage techniques are combined with recovery exercises, muscle strengthening, proprioceptive exercises for stability, active and passive stretching techniques. All aimed at restoring the correct functioning of the “body-machine”.

It is often prescribed by physicians and orthopedists following prolonged immobilization, but also after fractures, dislocations, tendon dysfunction, arthrosis and arthritis, pre- and post-operative trauma.

Is it personalized?

The therapy is customized for each patient and the course can vary from a few weeks to a few months depending on the goals to be achieved. The use of different methods, therefore, requires that the patient also works outside of the individual sessions following a specific and shared program.

How does our body respond to stress? It partially responds in an automatic way.

Initially the alarm is triggered at the level of the hypothalamus, a tiny but very important area of the brain that controls most of the organic functions independent of the will, such as body temperature, heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, etc..

It is closely linked to the endocrine (neuroendocrine) and immune systems and usually tends to maintain homeostasis or functional balance (e.g.: you sweat in hot weather or shiver in cold weather).

What can anti-stress massage do?

The anti-stress massage does not act only at the epidermal level, but stimulates the deep layers of tissues, reactivates blood and lymphatic circulation, loosens muscles and joints and acts on breathing.

The effect of general relaxation is due to the decrease of the cerebral rhythm/frequency improving the creative and intuitive abilities, it eliminates the stagnation of blood, lymph and interstitial liquids, it unblocks the diaphragm thanks to a deeper breathing.

Deep relaxation, then, boosts the immune system and induces the body’s natural production of painkillers, anti-anxiety drugs, sleeping pills and antidepressants.

How long does the massage last?

Massage lasts about 50 minutes and is normally considered as a weekly therapy or even several times a week, depending on individual preferences and needs.

This massage is the traditional western massage that takes its name from the place in Europe where it was born and developed. It is mainly characterized by the fact that the whole body is treated in order to promote relaxation and release muscle tension derived from everyday life.

How it works?

It starts from the feet and goes up to the head; at first light strokes are performed, followed by frictions, superficial and deep manipulations/mixing, percussions to reactivate the circulation and final relaxing strokes.

Massage oil is used to make the massage more pleasant and gentle. Massage lasts about 60 minutes and is normally considered as a “relaxing” therapy to be performed weekly or even several times a week, according to the preferences and needs of the patient.

This massage can be done both as an injury prevention tool and to achieve general well-being, but it is especially to be considered for improving sports performance, post-injury rehabilitation and postural improvement.

The basic idea is to free the fascia by ideally following the myofascial meridians. But what is meant by fascia?

By fascia we mean a structure formed by connective tissue that covers muscles, blood vessels, the nervous system and that holds together muscle and joint structures allowing them to slide over each other. In fact, the “fascial chain” is a functional conjunction able to give structure and support to the body, allowing its movement.

That feeling that is often identified by phrases like “my back feels stiff,” “my shoulder feels stuck,” etc., are exactly the signs that the affected muscle fascia is not flowing as it should.

What is our treatment for?

The treatment is therefore aimed at freeing the fascia, first treating muscle adhesions, then stretching and distending the fascia and finally working on contractures by working on pain centers (trigger points).

Following a motor assessment and special muscle tests in the body districts, we perform tissue friction, transverse massage, massage with knuckles, elbows and fingertips by moving the muscles involved both passively and actively by the patient.

In this way, we act on the superficial fascial structures as well as on the deep ones, increasing the degree of movement, releasing tensions and thus improving the postural aspect.

From whom is the treatment requested?

This treatment is one of the most requested by professional athletes as the improved mobility and fascial smoothness improves athletic gestures and therefore performance.

In addition, precisely because of a newfound fluidity of movement, there is a significant reduction in the risk of muscle trauma and already with one or two treatments, there is a complete disappearance of pain and muscle discomfort and at the same time a better sports performance.

The therapy requires a certain amount of discomfort/pain tolerance that will peak the day after treatment, and then subside 48 hours later. Three days after treatment, most people have no more pain and do not even remember having had the problem that led him to request a session of massage therapy. More complex problems require a few more sessions but rarely exceed 3-4 sessions.

Reduction of swelling and the outflow of excess fluids, fights water retention, facilitates the reabsorption of edemas and also reduces pain.

Those who approach this treatment are normally familiar with the effects of this massage that acts on the lymphatic circulation. But what is lymph? ymph is a viscous fluid composed mainly of water, lymphocytes (white blood cells responsible for immune defenses) and proteins.

This fluid cleanses the tissues of the body from metabolic waste by following a path that passes through certain areas, called lymphatic ganglia, where the lymph eliminates waste and then continues to other tissues in a continuous process of “cleaning”.

So what is it used for?

The main effects are the reduction of swelling and the outflow of excess fluids, combats water retention, facilitates the reabsorption of edema (eg trauma, joint sprains, post-operative hematomas) also reducing pain.

It favors the cicatrization process of tissues and wounds (and ulcers in diabetic people), improves the introduction of immunoglobulins and leukocytes also improving the immune system.

Lymphatic drainage massage techniques have evolved since the 1800s thanks to the discovery of lymphatic drainage massage by E. Vodder.

Regardless of where the point to be treated is located, the massage always begins at the neck level (this is where the lymph nodes are located, which are the points where the lymph mixes with the bloodstream), then moves on to the lymph nodes of the face and only then, following the lymphatic path, does it reach the area to be treated.

What does the massage involve?

The massage involves a light pressing movement, gentle and slow. The duration of the session varies according to the type of area to be treated and according to the condition of the swollen area. As a rule, the massage cannot last less than 60 minutes.

It is very important that the patient rests for at least 15 minutes after the treatment in order to amplify the beneficial effects of the massage, which will be perceived immediately starting with a feeling of lightness and psychophysical well-being.

Who is this massage intended for?

This is the favorite massage for those who want to fight cellulite and skin imperfections.

Muscle contractures are a common ailment that affects both athletes and “ordinary” people who do not play sports in their daily lives.

In most cases, contractures are due to repeated, prolonged or excessively intense efforts. However, bad posture, trauma or surgery can also be the cause of small or large contractures.

The decontracting massage involves specific techniques in relation to the area to be treated, which are aimed at reducing muscle tension and spasms, vascularize the tissues by increasing the supply of oxygen, mobilize them and restore the normal flow between muscle fibers.

Treating only the painful part is often not enough to solve the problem, therefore, in addition to the contracted area, treat the affected area with manipulations that are light at first and then deeper and deeper, and continue also in the surrounding areas. For example, when you have a contracture in the “calf” it is appropriate to treat the rest of the leg and the foot as well.

How does the treatment work?

Normally the massage lasts about 50-60 minutes and depending on the type of problem, two or more sessions may be necessary. Between one session and another it is always advisable to perform small muscle stretching exercises in order to maintain and restore normal muscle elasticity; the exercises are always proposed at the end of each treatment.
